Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital has a drug and alcohol addiction recovery department for adults in Auburn, California. You can either stay onsite in their residential program or sleep at home and come in for outpatient sessions.

As you’ll be in a hospital setting, you’ll detox with the support of medical staff. They’ll watch you closely for any uncomfortable or dangerous reactions to withdrawal. They may give you addiction medicine to ease the symptoms. You may stay on the medications to remove cravings while in the early stages of recovery.

Once the substances are out of your system and you’re stable then they’ll teach you tools to help you live sober. You’ll learn ways to avoid relapsing. You may meet with a counselor by yourself. At other times, you’ll join a group for therapy.

As stress is often a big factor in addiction, you’ll practice healthy coping skills. You’ll learn about meditation and how to help your body and mind relax. Often these sessions are practical, where you get to experience the benefits.

You’ll have the option of learning about the 12 steps used by Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). There are onsite 12-step groups that you can join. They can connect you to a temporary sponsor.

I like that they value family involvement. Your loved ones are able to be part of many group and support meetings. Once you’ve completed the program, they have different aftercare groups that you can join. They also have connections to community resources to help you maintain your sobriety and rejoin your family.
