About Walden House Inc.: Intake & Info

Walden House is a community oriented organization that serves men and women who need safe housing as they navigate a substance use disorder. This organization first came to be in San Francisco’s Haight Ashbury district in 1969 when it served adolescent runaways and homeless individuals.

Today, this organization has become a supportive pillar in the community, helping those who need a safe place to call home as they continue through recovery. It’s part of the HealthRight 360 network.

Along with safe housing services, Walden House provides behavioral health support, including support that matches you with appropriate treatment. This treatment might include social detox, gender specific residential care, or outpatient services. Narcan training is also provided.

I also appreciate that they work with individuals who are in custody and those who are re-integrating back into society. There are also specialized services for African Americans, offending women, and those who have a dual diagnosis. They also have a special track for LGBTQ+ members and Asian Americans.

The Haight Ashbury District is a unique community that merges a rich culture of activism and an appreciation for the arts. The neighborhood was first popularized by the hippie movement in the 1960s and was the hometown of famous musicians, including Janis Joplin.

While its rich history has certainly given it a unique story, today, this neighborhood has grown to be one of the most notable in San Francisco. It has made a name for itself as being an inviting and welcoming space for individuals from all walks of life.

As you receive services through the Walden House, you won’t feel judged for your struggles, your history, or the current circumstances you’re in. Rather, you’ll be uplifted by a compassionate staff. You’ll also get connected to different networks and groups within the community that you can lean on for support as well.
