About Stewart Marchman Act Behavioral Healthcare Fentress Boulevard

Stewart Marchman Act (SMA) Behavioral Healthcare is a mental health and substance use disorder treatment organization. They offer different programs in different locations. One clinic is on Fentress Boulevard in Daytona Beach, Florida, not too far from Daytona Beach International Airport.

They offer an enrichment program for adults 18 and up who need psychosocial rehabilitation services. The goal of the program is to provide psychosocial rehabilitation to adults with substance use and/or co occurring disorders or developmental disabilities. SMA accepts most major insurance and they’re in network providers with many of them.

Psychosocial rehabilitation is when clients with mental illness learn to maximize their abilities to function within the wider community. This includes essential life skills like how to find employment, how to socialize, and how to function more effectively. Psychosocial rehabilitation goes beyond symptom management through an individualized approach that allows for a client’s unique circumstances.

The program emphasizes that everyone should have work opportunities despite disabilities or limitations. By giving the clients opportunities, they help clients manage their mental health better and reduce and prevent hospitalizations. The treatment focuses on building and enhancing three primary skills: Independent living, vocational, and social.

This day program starts at 8:45 a.m. Clients work on building job skills in the morning. That’s followed by educational classes such as money management, life management, basic education, job exploration, and outings into the community. The classes are tailored to each individual. The program ends at 1:30 p.m.

One of the unique aspects of the program is the job readiness. They get help with resumes and learn how to fill out job applications. Clients find real opportunities to work throughout Florida, including for private businesses where the managers understand the mental health challenges they face. It’s neat that the center is by several department stores and Daytona Business Park. This is a program that offers hope to clients with mental health challenges, co occurring disorders, and developmental disabilities.
