About Odyssey House Adult Inpatient

Odyssey House is a nonprofit, adult residential substance use and co-occurring, or dual diagnosis, disorder treatment center. Established in 1971, this nondescript suburban facility is accredited by The Joint Commission and is in Salt Lake City, Utah. They treat men and women with addictions and mental health disorders. They have in network contracts with many commercial insurance companies. They also have multiple funding options available for treatment. Be sure to speak with an admissions agent to explore all your funding options.

To be admitted to the program, you have to commit to a minimum stay of 30 days. They also have 60 and 90 day programs. Additionally, you can enter with an indefinite timeline and stay for long term treatment tailored to your specific needs.

For most people, addiction is one part of a bigger mental health issue. The licensed mental health therapists seek to get to the root of your addiction to give you the best chance at long term sobriety and health. Co-occurring mental health disorders are common in people with substance use. These disorders can include bipolar disorder or depression. Once you treat the mental health issues, it’s easier to work to overcome the substance use.

The program reinforces health routines through learning valuable life skills. You’ll keep your own space clean and help others with laundry, cooking, and other chores. You’ll learn how to repair and strengthen your relationships that may be broken and strained due to substance use. You’ll learn how to walk away from unhealthy relationships that may have contributed to your substance use. Importantly, you’ll learn about accountability and how to take responsibility for your actions and the impact they have on others.

While at the facility, you’ll have opportunities for recreation, like attending cultural events in the nearby community. They also partner with the Salt Lake City School District so you can work on your GED or receive other vocational services. By successfully completing the inpatient program, you should find yourself able to live an independent sober lifestyle with a job and housing. You can also access nearby resources like Utah League of Cities and Towns for additional social services.
